Claire Elizabeth Coffee was born on April 14, 1980, in San Francisco, California. She was raised in Monterey, California and studied at Santa Catalina School, where she starred in musicals and plays. Later, she attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Theater.
She has appeared in recurring roles on The West Wing, and Franklin and Bash, plus guest starred in Bones, CSI: Crime Scene Investigations, NCIS, Psych, Cold Case, and Royal Pains, among others. From 2007 to 2009, she played nurse Nadine Crowell on General Hospital.
In 2011, she landed the recurring role of the evil Hexenbiest Adalind Schade on NBC series Grimm. During the middle of season 2, she was upgraded to series regular.
